Toes are pretty unnecessary, really. If you chop it off, it will hurt less. Remember to cut high just in case it's already gangrenous, because you wouldn't want an infection to spread. Amputate above the hip for safety.
I broke my toe once too. It doesn't hurt anymore, so I can assure you that the pain will go away.
Well, the advantages to cutting it off are numerous and varied, after all. For example, if you cut it off, you can be guaranteed that you'll never break that toe again!
Our coffee table has a thick metal frame and I often catch my toes on it as I get off the couch to go and do something - except this time it resulted in a really bad breakage. Like, my little toe and the one next to it got separated by the metal frame and little toe went CRACK out at an angle. =) Now she's all bandaged up and I'm on painkillers.
